THE COMPANY
Immersed in the smooth hills of Marche surrounding the ancient town of Fermo, Farm MadonnaBruna takes its name from the commemorative aedicule dated back to the XIX century and situated at the entrance of the Farm. The statue represents Our Lady of Loreto and recalls the small church built in times past by the local land-owners to thank the Virgin Mary after a miraculous intervention.
During the centuries the temple had been destroyed, but popular devotion has always remembered this area as particularly fruitful and pleasant, a clear evidence of the special favour reserved to this land by the dark-haired Mighty Lady (in Italian Madonna Bruna).
The farm lies only 4 Km from the sea, between the town of Fermo and the village of Lapedona, and enjoys a beautiful panoramic view of the green hills and the Adriatic Sea. The extent of the farm is 50 hectares devoted to fruit-growing, vineyard and to the rotation of sown fields. The farm joins the CEE regulation for low environmental impact (F 1).
Madonnabruna has 14 hectares planted with specialised vineyard registered in the Official List for the DOC Rosso Piceno. The vineyards are situated on the hillside between 100 and 200 metres from the sea level and cultivated with vines of the varieties Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Recently, small vineyards have been planted with international species of vines as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
All the vineyard are cultivated following the Guyot system that provides for the annual renewal of the fruitful branches. During the pruning, buds are strongly reduced and this allows the control of the production and permits an excellent ripening of the grapes. During vintage, grapes are gathered and put in small boxes, furthermore it‘s important to underline that gathering is carried out strictly by hand and takes place in two or three subsequent passages in order to choose, every time, the best ripen bunches of grapes.
The farm includes two farmhouses, one is devoted to the reception of tourists willing to spend their holiday enjoying the landscape and the pleasure of the countryside, and the second one is the very centre of all the activities of the farm. Near this house there is the area designed to the breeding of the horses of the small riding-ground and to the breeding of several species of poultry.
Lately Farm Madonnabruna has been reorganised and restored, completing this process with the building of a new and modern wine cellar in order to transform directly and without any external intervention the grapes grown in the farm into wine. Madonnabruna wines are very typical of the Piceno territory and are produced following the tradition and the careful processing of the two most important local vines, Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The core of our work is to create wines of a great quality but always strictly linked to the territory.
Anyway, the farm efforts face the future. Research and new technologies are allowing great results employing also international species of vines recently introduced in the farm vineyards, as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
